Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) is the purposeful recharge of water to aquifers for subsequent recovery or environmental beneft (IAH 2022). A rigorous environmental and social sustainability assessment of 28 schemes from 21 countries demonstrates that MAR is a sustainable technology (Zheng et al. 2021).
