Durante los seis años de operatividad de los dispositivos de recarga artificial de acuíferos o Managed Aquifer Recharge (en adelante MAR) construidos por el Ministerio de Agricultura (MAPA) y la Junta de Castilla y León (JCL) en dos sectores del acuífero de los Arenales: La Cubeta de Santiuste y comarca del Carracillo (Segovia), se ha llevado a cabo un seguimiento simultáneo a la recarga artificial, estudiando la efectividad, en cuanto al volumen de agua infiltrado, de los dispositivos (en especial balsas y canales). Este seguimiento ha permitido diseñar e implementar mejoras encaminadas a incrementar la tasa de infiltración, reducir la entrada de aire al acuífero y minimizar la colmatación en acuíferos arenosos, progresando hacia diseños de mayor eficiencia en el marco de la gestión hídrica para el regadío.
